SLEEP IN HEAVENLY PEACE CHARITY BUILD EVENT

Community Spotlight, News & Resources

(L-R) Samrawit Haile, Keni Van Der Brugen, Erica Jones, Suzanne Webster, Diane Sanchez, Lisa Wik, and Barbara Camarco were some of the Raba Kistner volunteers who participated this charity event.

Raba Kistner sponsored a charity bunk bed build at their headquarters on Saturday, April 21 by partnering with the local chapter of  Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) for their first build in San Antonio, supporting their mission of "no kid sleeps on the floor in our town." Raba Kistner employees raised approximately $6,000 for bunk bed materials and spent hours fabricating 20 bunk beds on Saturday, which will be donated to families in need.

Raba Kistner CEO and Chairman of the Board, Dr. Gary Raba, PE, brought the build to our firm. "Giving back has always been a part of our family’s priorities, from small projects in our neighborhood to fundraising and events like this. It’s a great way to gather our work family and include them, to bring everyone together to make a big impact. I can’t imagine not tucking my granddaughter into a bed - and these beds will not only give a kid a place to sleep and a feeling of security but a mom or a grandfather the opportunity to tuck them in at night."

Eddie Arnold, president of the San Antonio Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, said he recently realized the need for beds for children after seeing the reaction and appreciation of the families receiving the beds. "Many of those who received the beds had been sleeping on the floor. It feels incredible to help parents who are struggling, even if it’s just a little bit of help."

The nonprofit is asking the community for more donations and volunteers in order to accomplish its goal of building 500 beds by the end of the year. Families in need of beds for their children can visit the nonprofit's website to apply for a bed.
