PRESS RELEASE: TEXAS A&M CREDITS 1968 GRADUATE WITH HELPING TO SPREAD THE HOPE OF EDUCATION TO THOUSANDS OF TEXAS A&M STUDENTS

Carl F. Raba Wins Dream Maker Award

San Antonio. Dr. Carl F. Raba, Jr., Chairman and CEO of Raba-Kistner Consultants, Inc., a 450- employee engineering firm based in San Antonio, has been recognized by the Texas A&M University – San Antonio with the eponymous “Dream Maker Award”, which honors those who make the dreams of thousands come true through the support of education. Dr. Raba received the recognition at a formal gala held on September 8 in San Antonio with other 500 guests, including university, local and state dignitaries, in attendance.

As part of his recognition, Dr. Arline Patterson, Board Chair of the Texas A&M San Antonio Foundation, said, “The Dream Maker Award is bestowed upon an individual whose life has been devoted to reaching out, looking forward and helping others to make their dreams come true. Dr. Raba is a benefactor to countless students who, without his generosity, would never have had the opportunity to reach for the American Dream.” Patterson, along with Dr. Maria Ferrier, President of Texas A&M San Antonio, presented Dr. Raba with his award. As a further honor, two students who had received financial assistance from Dr. Raba accompanied him on stage.

Dr. Raba received his BS in Civil Engineering from the school in 1961, his MS in Civil Engineering in 1962, and his Doctorate of Philosophy in Civil Engineering in 1968, after spending 4 years in the Army. Raba achieved the rank of Company Commander in the Army, and the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Since forming his own firm in 1968, he has been a steady employer of A&M interns and graduates - including the almost 100 A&M graduates that work in his company currently - and has funded multiple scholarships and provided other financial assistance over the years.

Raba has been a loyal supporter of Texas A&M throughout his life, serving on various advisory and development committees in the Dwight Look College of Engineering, the Board of Directors of the Center for Education and Research for Free Enterprise and 12th Man Foundation, and the Corps of Cadets Development Council. Dr. Raba has also received the “Distinguished Alumnus” award from Texas A&M in 2004, the “College of Engineering Alumni Honor Awards” from the school in 1986, as well as numerous other recognitions within his technical field and the San Antonio community.
